The story, as told to us by Prakash Mehra’s son Puneet in our Big Interview this morning, goes that Dharmendra had the script of ‘Zanjeer’. After his film ‘Samadhi’ did well with Prakash Mehra, Dharamji showed the script of ‘Zanjeer’ to Prakash Mehra. The fiilmmaker loved the script and told Dharmendra to lead the film. But Dharmendra was busy for a year and at this moment, Prakash Mehra bought the script from him for Rs 3,500.
The rest as they say, is history. The Angry Young Man arrived.
“My Dad used to say that he is not the Godfather of Amitji. There were moments when people walked up to him and said just that. He would shoot back: Talent simply met talent and magic was created,” Puneet added.
